A Solid Start for 2009 The Annual General Meeting was embedded in a night of pleasure for all who attended the inaugural annual dinner of the Balai Bahasa Indonesia Perth (Inc) held in February at the Indonesian Consulate in Perth. After a short time of socializing and getting to know other members and guests, the evening began in earnest with a traditional Other special guests attending the evening were Bapak Aris Junaedi Education and Culture Attaché and Bapak Raudin Anwar Head of Information and Sociocultural section, representing the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra. Ms Lois Joll Director Secondary represented the Department of Education and Training WA and Mr John Hyde MLA Member for Perth and Mr Bill Johnston MLA Member for Cannington represented their electorates on the evening.
After an exchange of gifts the Annual General Meeting was opened with a report from the Chairperson of the Steering Committee followed by the election of Board members for 2009. The election went quickly and smoothly with all positions easily filled. Before closing the meeting well known identities from the Indonesian Language learning community in WA, Ms Sue Cooper President of WILTA (Westralian Indonesian Language Teachers' Association) and Professor David Hill Head of Asian Studies Murdoch University and ACICIS Consortium Director in Australia offered comments of support and advice. Mr John Hyde MLA, friend and continued supporter of Indonesian in WA also offered motivating words of encouragement. The meeting was closed and everybody enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner prepared by local Indonesian restaurant Osh5One. dance performed by recently arrived Department of Education and Training Language Assistant from Indonesia Ms Lina Wijaya. This was followed by a warm welcome speech from Acting Consul Republic of Indonesia Perth, Bapak Andi Bastari. A positive and uplifting address from special guest Bapak Dendy Sugono, Kepala Pusat Bahasa, National Department of Education Jakarta, re-affirmed the commitment of the Pusat Bahasa in supporting the Balai Bahasa Indonesia Perth to achieve its ongoing mission. On behalf of the Balai Bahasa Indonesia Perth Mrs Karen Bailey accepted a generous gift of Indonesian Language learning resources from the Pusat Bahasa.
